Preparing for Jesus - John 6 - FROG

As it just so happens, John 6, is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. John 6 gives us two of the most recognizable "God" moments of Jesus' life; it shows us the human nature of people who follow Jesus just to get "more" and when he doesn't give it to them, they take their ball and go home; we also see the resiliency of the disciples, who, when it gets tough,, say to Jesus, "You have the words of eternal life, where can we go."

But the thing I want to focus on for a moment is in verse six. So the scene is that Jesus had been teaching, the people around are getting tired and hungry and the disciples point that out to Jesus. Maybe Jesus should give them a break, but Jesus "already had in mind what he was going to do."

So he turns and asks Phillip. There are eleven other disciples, why Phillip? Well, as it turns out, where they are geographically is a town called Bethsaida. And what we find out from John 1:44 is that Phillip is from Bethsaida (along with a couple other disciples, Andrew and Peter). So if any of the disciples would know where to get the food it was going to be Phillip. If any of the disciples were going to have the answer outside of Jesus/God, it would have been Phillip, but he didn't.

Why bring this up now? Why point this out?

I think what God spoke to me while reading John 6 was this: Dude! Stop trying to do everything on your own. Stop trying to fully rely on Roger. Stop trying to get by on your own ability, knowledge, etc. Instead FROG (Fully Rely on God)

God wants you to have to rely on him. Thats kind of the point of him being God and us...well not being God. He wants us to lean on him for strength, to look to him for guidance. But we have to want it also.

So....
- What do you need to hand over to God?
- What is it that you need to FROG about?
- What have you been holding onto that you're needing to give up?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Side note: The end of John 6 sounds a little weird, but Jesus is alluding to the Communion, which is an adaptation from the passover feast. If you'll notice at the beginning if the chapter, in verse 4, it says the passover feast was near.
